Method

  1. Cook the penne according to the packet instructions and drain.
  2. Preheat the oven to 180°C.
  3. Heat the oil in a pan, add the mushrooms and cook for 2 minutes. Remove from the pan.
  4. Melt the butter in the pan, stir in the flour and cook gently for a minute. Add the milk gradually and cook, stirring, until the sauce thickens. Remove from the heat. Add the cheese, nutmeg and pepper.
  5. In a baking dish arrange one-third of the penne, sprinkle over one-third of the mushrooms and ham, and spoon over one-third of the sauce. Repeat the layers, ending with the sauce.
  6. Bake for about 20 minutes, until heated.

Ingredients

  • 150 grams dried penne
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 200 grams mushrooms, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 350 millilitres milk
  • 100 grams tasty cheese, grated
  • pinch nutmeg
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 150 grams New Zealand ham, diced
