Christmas food you can prepare in advance (yes from now!)

Time to get the Christmas Tree out and the tunes on repeat! It’s less than four weeks out from the big day, and if you’re amped to get your food sorted there are definitely some things you can prepare in advance. Here’s some ideas for the main event and savoury side of things:

‘Twas some time (you choose) before Christmas

  • Recipe plan well in advance - Check out our Christmas recipes here.

‘Twas a few weeks before Christmas

  • Pre order your New Zealand ham (do this now if you haven’t already!)
  • Be sure to check the label or confirm with your butcher that you’re buying 100% New Zealand ham.

‘Twas a week before Christmas

  • Make pigs in blankets, then freeze and bake on the day
  • Make the stuffing as a side dish, then freeze and bake on the day.

‘Twas a few days before Christmas

  • Prepare any marinades/sauces/glazes for meat and ham (store in fridge in sealed containers)
  • Glaze the ham!

‘Twas the night before Christmas

  • Cut and peel your roast vegetables (i.e. potatoes, kumara, carrots) and leave them to soak in cold water overnight.

It’s Christmas Day

  • Remember to bring your meat up to room temperature prior to cooking.
Have a brilliant day - enjoy your Christmas feast and being with your loved ones!
