Perfect the Friday Night in with Fakeaways

As the weather starts to cool and the rain falls, what’s better than a Friday night on the couch?

Takeaways are calling!

But instead of reaching for your phone and dialing or scrolling to your favourite restaurant, why not mix it up and recreate those favourite takeaways at home. It's often a healthier alternative, and is definitely kinder on your pocket.

Let’s take a trip through our favourite takeaway cuisines and delve into our recipes for some inspiration:

Italian

Who can say no to a good pizza? There’s something so satisfying about making your own dough and creating your own masterpiece. Whether it’s a family affair or a date night, this activity can be as fun and enjoyable as the eating process. When paired with our slow cooked pulled pork this is one fakeaway that is sure to beat the delivered version. You’ll have to be a bit organised to allow the pulled pork long enough to cook, but you could even do this part the day before.

American

Burgers… the options are endless at the end of the phone but these are a great fakeaway to perfect at home. We’ve got options galore for you to trial until you find your favourite. From the classic patty and filling of our Brilliant Burger, to the slightly more trendy, zesty café-style Good Ol Kiwi Pork burger, to the downright decadent Gourmet Burger (mince, bacon and garlic butter injections – need we say more!) you’ll need to work your way through our New Zealand pork burger library over a few weeks.

Thai

Thai cuisine has become a popular takeaway choice over the past few years, and it’s hard to go past the classic Pad Thai. Our New Zealand Pork Pad Thai is quick and easy, which will make it a winner if you don’t want to spend too long in the kitchen. You can use a variety of pork cuts to make this dish, and as most of the ingredients are pantry staples you’ll be able to pull it together with what you’ve got on hand.

If a Thai curry is more your speed then look no further than our Thai Red Curry. Often people think making a curry will mean a long time in the kitchen; well not this recipe! You can have your fakeaway Thai pork curry on the table in under 30 minutes!

Japanese

Often a takeaway choice when you’re looking for a lighter option, Japanese food is full of flavour, and great to share amongst a group. For a great vege-packed Japanese dish, try our Yakitori Grilled Pork with Peanut & Apple Slaw, Coconut & Cauliflower Rice, and Miso Mayo.

Another Japanese favourite is the Pork katsu curry and this version from VJ Cooks tastes just like the real deal. Even better, you can have it on the table in 30 minutes.

Chinese

What is a more quintessential Chinese takeaway than sweet and sour pork? Our deep-fried recipe is a replica of the real deal and will have you all asking for more.

Pork Fried Rice is another must have in a Chinese fakeaway night. It's sure to please the whole family.
